The RCIA program is the process for adults to investigate, journey and then become a Roman Catholic. It is for those adults who have never been baptized in any faith; those adults baptized in another Christian faith and now wishing to become Catholic; and those adults who were baptized Catholic but never completed their initiation with the Sacrament of Confirmation. The sessions are on Thursday evenings, beginning in late September and continuing until after Easter. The Sacraments are received at the Easter Vigil. Please click here to register or contact Jean Choplinsky at the parish office, 428-8547.
Baptism is the Church’s first Sacrament of Initiation. It is a Welcoming into Christ’s Church and the community of Star of the Sea Parish. Star of the Sea celebrates the sacrament of Baptism four times throughout the year at all Masses on Baptism Weekends. Parents requesting a Baptism must be registered parishioners, fill out a Sacrament Request Form and attend Baptism Preparation Classes prior to the child’s Baptism. For class dates, click here. The two-part Parent Baptism Preparation Class is offered four times a year on two consecutive Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. If you are interested in having your child baptized, please email Geri Tarkington or call the Parish Office at 428-8547.
First Reconciliationand First Eucharist
Jesus called people to “Repent, and believe in the Gospel” (Mark 1:15). Reconciliation heals us and strengthens us on our journey towards God. Eucharist is a celebration and remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The Eucharist is the heart of our life of faith. The First Sacrament Team helps prepare parents and children as they journey towards the Lord’s table. Both of these First Sacraments are prepared for at home and as a family. We meet with parents and children to guide them on their journey. We give them the tools and information to enrich their faith life and help them grow in God’s love and faith. You will need to complete a Sacrament Request Form for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist and return the form to the Parish Office. Click here for requirements and the list of parent/child meetings and other important dates! If you have any questions, please email Jeanine Ritz or call the Parish Office at 428-8547.
A wedding in the Roman Catholic Church is a sacrament. It is therefore not simply a ceremony, but an act of worship. Since the bride and groom minister this sacrament to each other, they will need the guidance of pastoral leadership. The pastor and staff will instruct the couple in the proper and most appropriate way to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage. This joyous sacrament is celebrated on Saturdays at 2:00 pm. If you are a registered parishioner and interested in being married at Star of the Sea, please contact Geri Tarkington at the parish office at least eight months prior to your planned wedding date.
Teen Confirmation is celebrated in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Teens must attend WCC/Religious Education on Sunday nights or Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School. In addition, confirmands are to attend the Confirmation classes. Requisites for the Confirmation program include community service, a retreat, and the selection of a sponsor. Confirmation is administered by the Bishop during the Easter Season. At that time, each candidate is anointed with Chrism and blessed with the laying on of hands. This gives the candidate the strength to continue the journey which was initiated at Baptism, the promise to live in Christ and spread His Word. You will need to complete a Sacrament Request Form for Teen Confirmation and return the form to the Parish Office. You will need to email Jeanine Ritzat 428-8547 to begin the Confirmation process.
